How to Use a Turkish Kese Exfoliating Glove
A Turkish kese is a traditional exfoliating glove used in Turkish bathing rituals to lift away dry, dead skin without a separate body scrub. The firm woven texture works best after warmth and water have softened the skin.
How to use a Turkish kese glove
- Warm the skin. Shower or bathe in warm water for approximately 10 minutes.
- Skip soap and body oil. Rinse them away before exfoliating so the glove can grip the skin effectively.
- Wet and wring the kese. The glove should be damp rather than dripping.
- Use firm, controlled strokes. Move the glove over the body in long vertical strokes. Avoid broken, irritated or freshly shaved skin.
- Rinse and moisturise. Rinse your skin, pat dry and follow with your preferred body moisturiser.
What makes a traditional kese different?
Unlike a soft washcloth, a kese has a distinctly coarse weave designed for deep physical exfoliation. You may see small rolls of loosened dead skin during use. Pressure should feel firm but never painful.
How often should you use it?
For most people, occasional use is enough. Start gently and allow your skin time between exfoliation sessions. If your skin is sensitive or you have a skin condition, seek advice from an appropriate healthcare professional before use.
How to care for your kese
Rinse the glove thoroughly after every use, squeeze out excess water and hang it in a well-ventilated place to dry completely. Do not share personal exfoliation gloves.
